Staying Centered on Christ in a Left and Right World

During the 2008 U.S. presidential election it became apparent that there are deeply-held viewpoints in American society, and they are far apart from each other. We hear terms like “progressive,” “far right (or left),” “liberal” and “conservative” that carry ever-increasing shades of meaning. In the Christian church similar terms may describe the “religious right,” “fundamentalist,” “evangelical” or “liberal” viewpoints of leaders and lay people. Within a diversified racial and cultural mix, we witness a tendency toward separating and protecting one’s own group rather than cooperation with and learning from those unlike us. This School for Leadership Training week is our invitation to think about the source of our internal narrative and the ways we live out that story.

Immigration. Race. Gender. Religion. Politics. As tensions swirl around us, how do Christian leaders center on Christ and find a healthy path? How do we lead others to find The Way?

Come join faculty, seminary students, alumni, pastors and leaders from the broader church as we explore these issues together. Daily worship, keynote addresses, workshops and interest groups will provide many opportunities to engage, stretch and grow. A variety of people with experience and knowledge will lead us to look at aspects of our world and suggest ways to relate from a Christ-centered foundation. Plan to be with us for a rich feast of ideas and applications.

Keynote speakers Greg Boyd and Jennifer Davis Sensenig will discuss various aspects of the theme “Centered on Christ in a Left and Right World.” For more information, visit www.emu.edu/seminary/slt.
