New Anabaptist-Mennonite book in Spanish
By Rachel Nussbaum Eby
GOSHEN, Indiana—As part of its role to advocate for the vision and mission of Anabaptist-Mennonite education in Mennonite Church USA, Mennonite Education Agency (MEA) announces the publication of a new book on Menno Simons in Spanish by Tony Brun.
“El Ministerio Pastoral de Menno Simons: de ayer y para hoy,” translated as “The Pastoral Ministry of Menno Simons: From Yesterday to Today,” focuses on the teaching and life of Menno Simons.
Brun, MEA staff associate and professor at Servant Leadership School—Festival Center in Washington, D.C., is the author of several other Spanish books including “Siendo Anabautista y Contemporáneo,” a book on Anabaptism, and “Go Beyond,” a book about spirituality. He recently completed his doctorate in ministry and mission at Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago, Ill.
“To know ourselves as church in the Mennonite tradition today is to recognize ourselves in those who preceded us and to respect them as our ecclesiastical ancestors,” said Brun. “Honoring them does not simply mean venerating their ashes, crystallizing their teachings or collecting them as antiques. To venerate a tradition means to transmit its flame. This book tries to transmit that pastoral flame that burned in Menno Simons’ heart.”
Brun has served as a professor and administrator in Uruguay, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Brazil, and as a pastor and church leader in Uruguay. He received undergraduate degrees in pastoral ministry and theology from Baptist Theological Seminary of Uruguay and Latin American Biblical Seminary (SBL) in Costa Rica, and master’s degrees in Latin American studies and pastoral ministry from SBL and National University of Costa Rica.
To purchase a copy of the book for $15.00 (plus shipping), contact Tony Brun by phone, 202-821-6859, or e-mail, tonyb@MennoniteEducation.org.
