Nothing Goes Unnoticed
The Lord looks down from heaven; he sees all humankind. —Psalm 33:13
READ: Psalm 33:13-22
REFLECT: At first reading, Psalm 33:13 is quite amazing. Wow! God sees us all! After a few moments it becomes a bit scary too. Wow! God sees us all!
The psalmist doesn’t seem to want to strike a chord of fear among his readers; rather, he is looking to encourage and strengthen. God is always present, and God is always concerned about our everyday life.
This verse took on special significance for me when I went shopping for some centerpieces for a youth fundraiser dinner. Looking in our local Re-Uzit shop, I knew I would have to be quick; my children were with me, and there were many breakable items to tempt them. I scanned for anything that stood out, but nothing caught my eye.
It was then that I happened to see Brenda. She attends the other church that sponsors our combined youth group. We chatted a bit, and then I mentioned what I was looking for. She smiled and said that she had some centerpieces from her daughter’s wedding. When I indicated how many I needed, she said that that was exactly how many she had. Then her face brightened again and she said, “Isn’t God good?”
Yes, isn’t it good that God would care enough about a youth dinner to arrange this “chance” meeting between two people? Nothing is too inconsequential for God. Nothing escapes God’s notice. In every aspect of our lives, God’s hand is present if we just look for it.
