Stuckey retires after three decades of service
NEWTON, Kan.Mennonite Church USA Executive Leadership celebrated Ted Stuckey’s 31 years of service to the General Conference Mennonite Church and Mennonite Church USA with a retirement celebration Tuesday, Aug. 29. His retirement takes effect Sept. 1.

Stuckey began his work as business manager and treasurer for the General Conference Mennonite Church in 1975. He kept that title until the denomination’s merger with the Mennonite Church, which formed what is now Mennonite Church USA. Within the new denomination, Stuckey served as director of administration for Executive Leadership, treasurer for Mennonite Church USA and president of Church Extension Services.

“It’s nice to be able to serve the church, even if one isn’t gifted as a pastor,” Stuckey said.

His most recent responsibilities included supervising the accounting and financial management of Mennonite Church USA Executive Leadership. Throughout his tenure with the church, Stuckey worked out of the Mennonite Church USA Great Plains office at 722 N. Main in Newton, Kan.

“Ted’s dedication to the purpose of Mennonite Church USA and his expertise in understanding how we operate as a living, breathing organism made him a valuable asset for our church,” said Jim Schrag, executive director for Mennonite Church USA. “We’re not only going to miss his services and knowledge, we’re going to miss his friendship and sense of humor.”

Stuckey is a Hesston, Kan., resident and is a member of Hesston Mennonite Church. He served on the Bethel Deaconess Hospital Board of Directors during its merger with Axtell Christian Hospital in 1988. Stuckey then served as vice president of the new Newton Medical Center Board of Directors. In addition, Stuckey served on the boards for what are now known as Newton Community & Healthcare Foundation and Central Kansas Community Foundation.

Upon retirement, Stuckey said he plans to “take a break” and enjoy time with his grandson.
