Radio program tackles teen drinking and drugs

‘Shaping Families’ announces schedule for February

By Melodie Davis

HARRISONBURG, Va.—Shaping Families, the 15-minute weekly radio program of MennoMedia, will tackle the effects of alcohol and drugs on the adolescent brain in February. The schedule for the month is:

  • Feb. 4: “Enjoying Leisure.” Evan Oswald, author of a new book, Christians and Post-Modern Leisure, will talk about the need for leisure time. Oswald is a former professor at Hesston (Kan.) College and former activities director at Glencroft Retirement Community in Glendale, Ariz.
  • Feb. 11 and 18: Brian Kelley, chair of the psychology department at Bridgewater (Va.) College, is the guest for a two-part series on the effects of alcohol and drugs on the adolescent brain—“Teens and Substance Abuse” and “Curbing Underage Drinking.”
  • Feb. 25: “Stay-at-Home Mom.” Jennifer Murch, a blogger who writes on a diversity of home and family topics, will talk about the ups and downs of being with children all day as she homeschools them.

Shaping Families airs on 18 radio stations and appears online each Friday before air date at www.ShapingFamilies.com.

The program is produced by MennoMedia, an agency of Mennonite Church USA and Mennonite Church Canada creating faith-based print, video, radio, and web resources.
