A longtime MC USA Convention volunteer returns to photograph MennoCon23

Ken Krehbiel

Ken Krehbiel, a longtime volunteer photographer for MennoCon, Mennonite Church USA’s national convention, will return to photograph MennoCon23 in Kansas City, July 3-6. Krehbiel owns his own photography business, Imageworks Photography, and does photography mainly for corporations and events. He lives in Phoenix, Arizona, and attends Sunnyslope Mennonite Church. A certified professional photographer for 30 years, Krehbiel has a bachelor’s degree in photojournalism and has traveled widely for his photography, including to South America and Germany.

Krehbiel has served as the official photographer for MennoCon for the denomination since the 2015 convention in Phoenix, Arizona. At the time, his two daughters were attending the Convention, and Krehbiel was with them when MC USA Convention staff asked him to take photos during the event. Recalling this in a brief interview, Krehbiel said, “I volunteered in Phoenix and they said, ‘We like your work. Would you be willing to do this for future conventions?’”

Krehbiel said, “My passion for photography is a way for me to give back to the denomination and to use my skills and talents for God.”

He does a variety of corporate events for clients, such as the American Nursing Association, but says that he loves capturing people, especially youth in worship, the most. “I enjoy capturing the storytelling moment,” said Krehbiel. “When I am only photographing people sitting around on chairs, it is hard to get that storytelling shot. But with worship, I like the challenge of being creative on demand.”

“We appreciate all of the wonderful MennoCon moments Ken has captured over the years,” said Camille Dager, Chief Communication Officer for Mennonite Church USA. “His love for Convention is evident in every photo he takes, and he has a keen eye for capturing the excitement and spirit of this important denomination-wide event.”

More than 50 people have volunteered to serve at MennoCon23 in a variety of roles, including ushers, prayer team members and children’s programming.
