Archives’ doors re-open to researchers in Elkhart

ELKHART, Indiana (Mennonite Church USA) – The Mennonite Church USA Archives will soon be open for business in their new space.

Researchers will be able to resume using the archives’ various collections and materials on Monday, May 8. The archives moved this spring from their long-time home at nearby Goshen College to the lower level of the Mennonite Church USA offices at 3145 Benham Avenue in Elkhart. The archives had been closed to researchers since July 2016 to prepare for the move, which included millions of documents.

“It will probably be a while until we are completely settled into the new space,” said Jason Kauffman, director of Archives and Records Management, “but I’m glad that we are finally able to reopen to researchers and welcome them here in Elkhart.”

Regular hours at the new facility will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The archives will be closed Friday to Sunday. Researchers can refer to the archives’ website (http://mennoniteusa.org/what-we-do/archives/) for information about scheduled closures during the summer.

A more formal ceremony and open house are being planned to commemorate the opening in late May or June, after finishing touches have been completed. That program will officially dedicate the new space, recognize donors and volunteers, and provide opportunities to tour the facility.

Correspondence for the archives should be sent to 3145 Benham Ave., Suite 1, Elkhart, IN 46517 or JasonK@mennoniteusa.org; phone: 574-523-3059. An additional archives collection is housed at Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas.
