The Mennonite Church USA Archives is among 55 archival repositories participating as charter members of ArchivesSpace, a new open source web application that manages information about archival collections. Other ArchivesSpace charter members include Brigham Young University, the Indianapolis Museum of Art Library and Archives, the New York Public Library, Pennsylvania State University, and the Smithsonian Institution.
As a charter member, the Mennonite Church USA Archives will participate in the governance of ArchivesSpace and be one of the first repositories to migrate its descriptions of archival holdings (currently numbering over 1,000) into the new software in 2014. The migration to ArchivesSpace will be apparent to Mennonite Church USA Archives researchers as the software provides enhanced search functions and a cleaner display than the current collection database provides.
ArchivesSpace will also streamline administrative functions within the archives. See www.archivesspace.org.
