On Nov. 1, 2025, Mosaic Mennonite Conference delegates voted to “discontinue membership in Mennonite Church USA.”
Of the 165 delegates participating, 64% voted “green” (affirm), and 10% voted “yellow” (yield), both of which counted as votes in favor of the recommendation. Twenty-three percent voted “red” (no), and 3% abstained, according to reporting from Anabaptist World magazine. The combined total of affirmative votes exceeded the two-thirds threshold required for a bylaw change.
MC USA Executive Director Glen Guyton said, “This transition clarifies each body’s sense of call. Our work now is to continue strengthening our witness, supporting our congregations and living into the commitments that shape us. We release this relationship with care and integrity, and we carry forward our mission with clarity and hope.”
Guyton affirmed the denomination’s ongoing commitments, saying: “Our identity as MC USA is rooted in following Jesus together. We continue to prioritize safe and supportive environments for congregations, equip leaders across a wide range of cultural and ministry contexts, and sustain the educational and formation ministries that serve the wider church. These commitments guide our life together and will continue to shape our future.”
Relationships and congregational options
Because MC USA’s denominational structure allows for flexibility in relationships and collaboration, agencies, ministry partners and area conferences may continue to engage with Mosaic as they discern appropriate shared mission opportunities.
Additionally, Mosaic congregations that wish to remain connected to MC USA may do so through affiliation with another MC USA area conference. Each conference determines its own criteria and process for membership. For more information, congregations are encouraged to review MC USA’s FAQ, How to remain in MC USA.
“MC USA remains committed to nurturing congregational life, developing leaders and strengthening our shared witness to Christ’s peace in the years ahead,” added Guyton.
Mennonite Church USA is an Anabaptist Christian denomination. Members of this historic peace church seek to follow Jesus by rejecting violence and resisting injustice. MC USA’s Renewed Commitments state the following shared commitments among its diverse body of believers: to follow Jesus, witness to God’s peace and experience the transformation of the Holy Spirit.
