Anabaptist Songwriting Challenge extends deadline/Se amplia el plazo para enviar canciones a ASC

ASCThe organizing committee of the Anabaptist Songwriting Challenge is extending the deadline for song submissions to January 1, 2015.

Recognizing that promotional materials for the challenge have not reached the expected number of congregations and communities, organizers are extending promotional efforts as well as the deadline. They are also inviting submissions from other Anabaptist denominations, including Brethren in Christ, Mennonite Brethren, and Church of the Brethren, as well as Mennonite Church USA members.

“We want to ask you to help spread the word about this great opportunity for composers to send in their songs,” Jaime Lazarocommittee member Jaime Lazaro said.

To this date, ASC has received songs from composers in Vermont, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Indiana and Oregon.

“We would love to have every state and ethnic group represented in this competition,” said Lazaro.

The ASC team notes that this challenge is for songwriters and that their compositions do not need to be professionally recorded or performed. The ASC jury will primarily analyze the melody and lyrics of the song rather than its performance.

“Even a cell phone can be used to record a composer’s song,” said Tory Doerksen, jury coordinator for the challenge.

Ten songs will be posted online following the challenge for congregational use. Three of those songs will be performed at the Mennonite Church USA convention in Kansas City (June 30-July 5, 2015), with prizes of $1,000 each awarded to the composers.

For more information, visit the Anabaptist Songwriting Challenge online. Also available online: a downloadable poster and bulletin insert for sharing the word about ASC.
